Working Parties Knowledge and Skills Framework: Last year David Burrell, Cedric Eustance and Julie Martin commenced work looking at KSF Outlines for Nuclear Medicine Technologists. Sadly time constraints have stalled this process. Any new developments will be published both in the Newsletter and on the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Incidentally for those who are unaware of this excellent forum, it provides a unique opportunity to share information, Agenda for Change intelligence (a contradiction in terms) and other issues of concern. It is moderated by David Burrell. It has been suggested that this might become a BNMS backed forum. The feelings of members on this development are sought. Intercollegiate Advisory Board on PET/CT: Last year I was asked on behalf of the Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) to represent them on this advisory board looking at issues surround the development of PET/CT in the UK. Whilst I was asked to attend as a representative of SCoR, I have made it clear that I am attending both in that capacity and also in my capacity as Chair of the BNMSTG. No conflict of interests is anticipated. To date there have been 3 meetings. Paula Todd from IPEM and myself have worked to produce draft PET-CT Competencies. Paula has made the major contribution to this project and has done an excellent job. I have acted as a sounding board ensuring that the competencies are inclusive.Essentially any technologist (radiographer or clinical technologist) with appropriate training and skills can undertake PET-CT duties. The limited availability of training opportunities and clinical placements has been notified to the DH. The shortage of Technologists has also been raised. Registration of Clinical Technologists No new issues. The expected date is hopefully later this year. Newsletter It was felt last year that the process of producing the newsletter needed revamping. To that end Bristol Meyers Squibb very kindly agreed to provide Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software to allow us to produce a polished document for electronic distribution. Phil Facey has been the newsletter editor this year but has struggled to produce a worthwhile publication. The reason for this is the reluctance of members to send him any material. A newsletter that contains articles only from Phil and myself would be pretty boring. Phil is poised, has been for some time, and eager to produce a regular newsletter but needs your help. You are all asked to approach colleagues (and yourselves) with a view to writing articles; these can be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it I cannot stress strongly enough that this is essential if you are to have a newsletter. There is no point in members complaining that the BNMSTG is inactive if they are not willing to engage proactively. A newsletter simply extolling the activities of Council would not be much fun Council Meetings As Chair of the Technology Group I continue to attend BNMS Council to represent the interests of our members.Unfortunately this year I have had a departmental move and have therefore not had the attendance at these meeting that I would have liked. Invitation I would like to reiterate my invitation of last year of members to raise issues of concern with BNMSTG Council. As I said before we are not a union and cannot undertake union functions. However, we are gaining increasing influence with for example the WDCs and professional bodies. This allows us new opportunities to raise your concerns. As issues arise there will be a requirement for volunteers to join working parties. All members are very welcome to join such parties. Remember the more people that become proactive in the organisation, the more we can achieve. New members of the Technology Group are always welcome. Words of thanks Finally I would like to thank all members of Council and working parties past and present for their excellent work over the past year.
