BNMS 2020 Awards Winners |
Norman Veall Medal 2020
awarded to Prof Phil Blower, Professor of Imaging Chemistry, King’s College London Professor Blower is head of the pre-clinical research group at Kings College London. He has worked very closely with his clinical colleagues in the development of novel PET tracers. He is playing a major role with CRUK in expanding access to research PET agents across the UK.
President’s Medal 2020
awarded to Prof Sobhan Vinjamuri, Consultant Physician in Nuclear Medicine, Royal Liverpool Hospital Professor Vinjamuri was my predecessor as President of the BNMS. He has been instrumental in developing our new mentorship programme and the BNMS Fellowships. He leads a highly respected nuclear medicine team in Liverpool. He has won local awards for introducing PSMA imaging locally. How do I know this? The Lord Mayor of Liverpool told me during a BNMS meeting there. Clearly Sobhan's influence goes far beyond his department. A worthy winner of the President's Gold medal.
BNMS Roll of Honour 2020 awarded to Dr Brian Neilly, Consultant Physician in Nuclear Medicine, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and
Dr John Rees, Consultant Radiologist, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff Dr Neilly and Dr Rees join the BNMS role of honour this year. There inclusion reminds us we are a society that covers all 4 nations of the UK. Brian was a previous President of the BNMS and Scottish representative on many Royal College committees for longer than we both care to remember. John has been a leading light in driving forward nuclear medicine in Wales. He has also served as Chairman of ARSAC and during his tenure he steered the committee through the changes caused by IRMER 2017.
RTNG Award 2020 awarded posthumously to Alan Deakin, long-standing Technologist, deputy and then Chief Technologist at Birmingham City Hospital He has been not only been extensively involved with advancing the practice of Nuclear Medicine wherever he worked, he was also a thoroughly lovely man who made it possible for other people to further their own development. He was one of the unsung heroes of Nuclear Medicine – there are many of them out there, but none like our Alan. Very deserving of this award and sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Honorary Membership awarded to Prof Stephen Richard Underwood, Physician, Royal Brompton Hospital These awards will be presented at the BNMS annual meeting to be held in Belfast 27 - 29 September 2021 |
