The BNMS awards a number of prizes to recognise excellence in nuclear medicine and funding through fellowships and funds.

New for 2023 - Ignac Fogelman Memorial Prize
This is a new award which will be awarded to an oral paper or poster presented from abstracts submitted at the Annual spring meeting concerning the science and practice of radionuclide imaging of the skeleton or bone densitometry.
New for 2023 - Muriel Buxton-Thomas Memorial Prize

This is a new award which will be awarded to an oral paper or poster presented from abstracts submitted at the Annual spring meeting concerning any aspect of Radionuclide Oncological imaging and therapy.

NEW for 2023 - Physics Prize

This is a new award which will be open to all proffered papers on topics including: all aspects of radiation protection (dose assessment, work practice etc.); Monte Carlo method; Image/dose optimisation; Equipment/software assessment and characterisation: Novel techniques/image analysis.

NEW for 2023 - Preclinical Prize

This is a new award and will be awarded to the best overall presentation, oral or poster, focusing on all aspects of research that is before clinical involvement, or biological studies that help understand clinical studies. This can include:
· new radiochemistry – without a GMP component (whereas improvements or GMP of existing radiochemistry is more like radiopharmacy)
· In vitro mechanistic biology of new/existing tracers or therapeutics
· In vivo animal imaging of new tracers or existing tracers  or therapeutics where mechanistic understanding is enhanced
· Physics/radiobiology in preclinical imaging/therapy

Saul Hertz Memorial Award

This is a new award to be given for the best paper and best poster concerning the clinical use of radionuclide therapy. They are in memory of Dr Saul Hertz the founder of clinical nuclear medicine. Learn More>

BNMS Lee Jenkins Memorial Prize

The nuclear medicine community throughout the U.K. and further afield was shocked by the tragic early death of Lee Jenkins at the age of forty-two. Learn More >
Young Investigators Prize
This competition took place for the first time at the 1998 Annual Meeting.Learn More >
Student Prize
Entrants must be a student member of the BNMS to take part or apply for membership at the time of submitting an abstract. Learn More >
Awards Presented Annually at the Spring Meeting
Norman Veall Medal
In 1991 a decision was made by Council to honour the memory of the late Dr. Norman Veall, one of the pioneers of nuclear medicine in this country, by asking members to contribute to a Norman Veall prize. Learn More >

BNMS Radiographers, Technologists and Nurses Group (RTNG) Award the Ros Breen Fund to Radiographer, Ellie Knowler
Ellie Knowler a Radiographer from University Hospital of Wales Cardiff was awarded £1000 from the Ros Breen Fund by the BNMS RTNG towards funding her studying on the Post Graduate Diploma in Nuclear Medicine at the University of the West of England. Learn More >

History of the Travelling Fellowship Award
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of 1983 the BNMS Secretary reported that council had decided to set up Travelling Scholarships with the sum of £3,000 which it had been agreed at last year’s Annual General Meeting should be set aside to further Nuclear Medicine. Learn More >
