The British Nuclear Medicine Society (BNMS) is the only independent forum devoted to all aspects of Nuclear Medicine.

Established in 1966 as the Nuclear Medicine Society, its membership includes the clinicians dealing with the medical speciality, clinical scientists, radiopharmacists, other scientists, nuclear medicine technologists and nurses.

The BNMS is an organisation concerned with the clinical practice, education, research and development of nuclear medicine within the UK. Membership of the BNMS is open to those who have a substantial interest and involvement in the provision of nuclear medicine services. The Society is a registered charity, which works largely through its members to promote the clinical benefits of the specialty. The official journal of the society is Nuclear Medicine Communications.

The Aims of the BNMS

The aims of the Society are the advancement of the science and public education
in Nuclear Medicine, in particular:

a) To promote the discussion and exchange of ideas associated with the diagnostic, investigative, research and therapeutic use of radioactive materials in human disease, through annual and local scientific meetings. 
b) To promote appropriate training in Nuclear Medicine of all grades of staff dealing with radioactive isotopes.
c) To provide a suitable medium for the dissemination of the results of original work in the field of Nuclear Medicine with special reference to clinical applications through the BNMS official Journal - Nuclear Medicine Communications.
d) To improve the standards of practice and patient care in the safe practice of the speciality through countrywide audit and quality assurance activities. Also producing advice for purchasers on clinical and technical requirements and standards for Nuclear Medicine.
e) To represent the speciality on official bodies concerned with the regulation of the clinical uses of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.

f) To maintain close touch with other Societies and organisations in the United
Kingdom and abroad which have similar aims and interests.
g) To extend, increase and disseminate knowledge of Nuclear Medicine, through meetings, demonstrations, exhibitions, conferences, papers, pamphlets, journals or other publications and promoting courses.
