Parathyroid Imaging: A Practical Course for Nuclear Medicine Professionals

The course included two parallel streams:

  • A clinical stream for those involved in reporting
  • A technologist stream focused on image acquisition, including protocol optimisation, positioning, and troubleshooting

Who was it for?
This course was designed for nuclear medicine professionals involved in both the acquisition and reporting of parathyroid imaging, including:

  • Nuclear medicine technologists and radiographers
  • Clinical scientists
  • Nuclear medicine physicians and radionuclide radiologists

Event objectives:

1.Interpret and report parathyroid imaging studies using sestamibi SPECT/CT and choline PET/CT, with an understanding of when to apply each modality and how to optimise diagnostic accuracy.
2. Apply best practices in image acquisition for parathyroid studies, including patient preparation, protocol optimisation, and the use of contrast in SPECT/CT for improved anatomical localisation.
3. TIntegrate multimodality imaging and clinical perspectives by understanding the role of ultrasound, CT, and surgical expectations in the diagnostic pathway for parathyroid adenoma localisation.
