Recipient of the Norman Veall Medal 2016

The Norman Veall Medal is awarded to a clinical scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to the science and/or practice of nuclear medicine in the United Kingdom.

At the awards dinner during BNMS2016, Dr Steve Ebdon Jackson was the beneficiary of the prestigous award for his creating and developing workforce initiatives in radiology and radiography.

To name just a few: 

  • Leading on the negotiation of the EU Medical Exposure Directive 97/43/Euratom and its transposition and  implementation into UK legislation – IR(ME)R 2000.
  • Establishing and providing the IR(ME)R inspectorate for the Devolved Administrations
  • International Standards and Directives for radiation protection
  • Implementation of ionising radiation regulations with regard to medical practice
  • Managing the Secretariat to ARSAC and The Committee on Medical Aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE)
  • Management of the Radiation Protection Research (RPR) programme
  • Administration of a number of HPA/PHE working parties
