| The Norman Veall Medal |
|
In 1991 a decision was made by Council to honour the memory of the late Dr. Norman Veall, one of the pioneers of nuclear medicine in this country, by asking members to contribute to a Norman Veall prize. Commemorative medals have been struck and will be presented to the recipients of the award. The first medal was awarded at the Society’s Annual Meeting in London in March 1994 and the award is now usually made annually to a clinical scientist who has made an outstanding contribution to the science and/or practice of nuclear medicine in the United Kingdom. A panel comprising of two clinical scientists and the current President, review nominations and award this medal. The brief statement in support of the nomination has been increased to 250 words from May 2025. At the AGM 2025 it was proposed that we change the criteria for awarding this medal. Currently nomination forms allow only a brief statement of 100 words in support of the nomination, which doesn’t provide enough information so we will extend this to 250 words. It was also proposed that the judging panel be changed to a panel comprising of two clinical scientists and the current President. The members in attendance voted on this proposal and it was unanimously agreed that the proposed changes be accepted. The brief statement in support of the nomination has been increased to 400 words from June 2025, this was agreed at a meeting of the BNMS Council in June 2025 Norman Veall Medal Winners
