The BNMS Medical Training Committee was established in 2023 to increase awareness of diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine amongst resident doctors and medical students. It also supports those residents in specialist Nuclear Medicine Physician (NMP) and Clinical Radiology (CR) training.

The Committee is made up of doctors at different levels of training from across the country and is led by The Honorary Secretary of BNMS. The Committee meets three times a year and each meeting is chaired by a different member of the committee to develop leadership skills amongst the group.

The aims of this committee include promoting educational content for medical students and resident doctors, encourage their engagement with the BNMS and application into speciality training within nuclear medicine.

The Committee oversees the BNMS Medical Training Essay Competition at The BNMS Spring Meeting and there is a dedicated Medical Training session at the meeting where the essay winners get to present their work and hot topics in training and beyond are discussed.

In 2026 the Committee is developing the network of NMP and CR residents, increasing its digital presence with more online resources and collaborating with other BNMS Committees and external stakeholders involved in training of healthcare professionals. Committee members are also hosting talks regarding careers in nuclear medicine to medical students and foundation year residents to inspire and grow the future workforce.

BNMS membership for undergraduate medical students is free. Membership for resident doctors is within the Full member Junior category. BNMS membership offers discounts at scientific meetings, access to valuable online resources, the BNMS journal, Nuclear Medicine Communications and regular updates about developments in this exciting specialist field.
